Act Four: Facing Scotty Coffman and A choice

Walking onto the bridge with Theo, Scott Coffman’s personal guard behind him. Shoved him a few times, coming up to Scott’s command chair, watching him turn to face him as he stopped a few feet from him.

“When I took you onboard in trade with Lady Camille LeBranch for her parts. It never crossed my mind that you would be such an exceptional pilot. You have proven yourself to be quite the rare find. But I’ve grown tired of you turning my daughter against me.”

Kerry kept focused on him, remembering everything Robbie had taught him about their customs. When you talked with a Reaper, you never turn your back or look away. You stared, peered into the person who was addressing you, with no fear, no doubt, if you showed any emotion it could cost you.

Nodding, Scott offered a slight smile from the corner of his lips. “You are smart to keep that mouth shut, unlike her friend Karla. A mouth can get you hurt or worse, shot.”

“What do you want?”

The smile disappeared as he took a step closer as Kerry summoned everything he had to remain focused on him as the one dark slate eye glared at him.

“For the last nine years, I’ve been trying to wipe out the nonsense that her mother had filled her head with before the days of sorrow. Democracy, freedom, things that lead to rot and chaos. She does not need your encouragement of the shit that caused those days and the death of her mother. So I will give you a choice. Either you offer yourself in exchange for salvaging her life. Or you continue trying to court her and I will kill both of you instead.”

“You would kill your own daughter?” He asked.

His eyebrows shot up, a slight tremor running through his body as he shifted his weight. A sharp pain shot through Kerry’s head as his hand connected with the side of his head, sending him sprawling onto the floor, a flash of white blinding him before darkness consumed him. The taste of blood, metallic and sharp, filled his mouth as he regained his senses, scrambling to his feet before Theo’s powerful hands gripped his coat and pulled him up, his arms held fast.

“I’ll give you one week to think it over. Do the right thing, boy, and be a man. Accept your fate and save her. Or I will have no choice but to kill both of you. I can’t have you spreading lies through her to my crew.”

Theo yanked him away, making him stumble as they walked back into the corridor before Theo shoved him from behind forward.

“Do what’s best for her, lad. If you truly believe you are a Reaper, then I would accept my death with honor and spare her, her father’s blade.”

Turning to look back as Theo had already disappeared back onto the bridge. Kerry turned, wiping his mouth of blood and heading back to the travel tube around the corner heading to his cabin.
